Carousel Music Boxes

Carousel Music Boxes remind me of my childhood  trips to the now historic Seabreeze Amusement Park in Rochester, NY. In 1994, a fire swept thru and almost totally destroyed the carousel which had been added to the park in 1915.

The earliest depictions of a carousel is in a Byzantine baz-relief dating back to around 500AD. Thru the years they evolved to what we have today including multi-level carousels and even a solar powered one which can be found in Hopland, California at the Solar Living Institute.

Modern carousels in America usually feature horses while carousels in Europe and in earlier American times had pigs, zebra’s and mythological creatures such as dragons, unicorns and sea monsters.

Carousels today are frequently found in food courts in shopping malls and delight many a young child from an early age. When my children were young, a trip to the carousel was always a required visit.
